System Design Authority – Mode 5 IFF

The Opportunity

We are looking for a System Design Authority (SDA) to lead the Mode 5 technical solution across Land, Sea and Air and the technical oversight of delivery of a fully integrated solution to those platforms. The System Design Authority will work closely with the Head of Engineering Projects to provide technical leadership and assurance of the engineering activities related to Mode 5. The System Design Authority will also work closely and have direct contact with customers, suppliers and partners to provide technical assurance across the programmes.

What you will do

Provide technical oversight throughout the whole product lifecycle, from concept through assessment and demonstration to acceptance and in-service support.
Be responsible for interpreting customer requirements and ensuring the technical solution is compliant, safe and meets design integrity targets.
Hold delegation to approve the design meets its contractual and legislative requirements.
Participate in engineering lifecycle reviews and ensuring successful customer acceptance and handover.
Provide technical assurance of engineering outputs, including engineering development plans, test plans, detailed designs, interface specifications, qualification evidence and deliverable equipment.
Supporting the Project Engineering Manager in identifying and managing technical risk.
Work in a collaborative manner with the Engineering Managers and associated disciplines to ensure platform level requirements are understood and being addressed.
Ensure a consistent approach across the engineering disciplines to ensure the platform requirements are addressed.
Provide effective communication across the engineering disciplines to ensure priorities and critical decisions are understood by all.
Conduct product incident reporting and management in accordance with company process.
Mentor others in the team technically.

What we are looking for

You really must have:

Demonstrate substantial experience in equipment installation and release at systems, sub-system level and platform levels.
Experience in providing release of installations/upgrades in relation to military airworthiness
Some experience in certification and release of military Land and Naval installations.
Substantial analytical and technical problem-solving skills
Self-motivated leader and team player capable of working with minimum direction
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to build trust and respect at different levels
Experience in gaining design certification and customer acceptance
Typically meets the requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer with the ECUK
Knowledge of general engineering lifecycle and business process
Coordinate multi-stakeholder analysis into reports and presentations for delivery to customers & industry partners
To obtain the relevant level of Security Clearance required for this role you will need to be a UK Citizen
