What does a Support Worker do?
As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will enormously contribute to the people we support, living a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life.
Personal care – helping people to get ready for the day and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom.
Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, house work, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
Excellent communication skills/relationship building – supporting the person to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
Community & Social Inclusion- Supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and Social events to promote life skills and individuality.
We have an exciting opportunity for you. Mencap are looking for Support Workers to join our team in Stalbridge in helping to enhance the lives of people with a learning disability. You will be supporting people in their own homes and in all aspects of their lives.
Stalbridge community support consists of 1 gentleman who lives within his own home and Mencap support staff provide 24 hr support within his environment. This involves lone working, sleep in shifts which are paid at an enhanced rate. We also support 6 other individuals within their own homes who all live in the surrounding area.
The role of a Support Worker can be challenging, varied and rewarding. You will enable the people we support to achieve their goals and ambitions. Duties will include providing support with cooking or preparing meals, managing finances, personal care, attending health appointments or going out into the community. As support workers we will do whatever possible to meet the needs and requirements of the people we support.
You don’t need a CV full of qualifications but you will be a self-motivated and dedicated person with a fun and imaginative approach. Various hours are available, working times are on a rota basis with shifts spread across the weekdays, weekends and bank holidays and will include mornings, afternoons, evenings and sleep ins.
