Job Title: Project Manager
Contract: Full time permanent position
Location: MOD Whitehall London but also working from home
Hours of work: Normal working hours however there may be a need to complete some evening or weekend works during the key project construction phases
What is the purpose of this role?
Amey have a very prestigious 30-year contract in the Ministry of Defence's (MOD) Main Building in central London, to manage all of the soft services in the building for our client including: reception, helpdesk, mail, reprographics, portering, cleaning, catering, conference services, churn, CIS, audio-visual and document management.
You will be part of a dedicated Amey project team, working with other key stakeholders, Amey staff and subcontractors to plan, construct and reconfigure our client's offices and relocate the new department's staff. The team is also currently working on a number of other office projects including setting up Winter Operations Cells, installing Covid Perspex Screens (and other protective measures) and upgrading the buildings water coolers.
This position will be to act as the principal point of contact for the pilot project as well as assisting with various other projects undertaken by the project team.
What will this role involve?
To lead and project manage the pilot project by attending meetings, project planning, programming, reviewing project risk registers and producing progress reports;
To ensure appropriate work plans and budgets are in place to achieve programmes and financial commitments, whilst meeting the changing operational need such as assessing, costing and implementing Change Requests;
To develop and agree furniture specifications that meet the client staff and IT requirements;
To obtain quotes for the procurement and installation of new furniture and removal and safe disposal of the old furniture;
To produce health and safety paperwork for the project such as CDM Construction Phase Plans and subcontractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), set-to-work briefs and inductions;
To undertake other MOD project administration processes as necessary, including; vehicle access forms, security checks, isolation requests, Asbestos checks; Impact Assessments, escort and security arrangements;
To supervise our staff and subcontractors on site for the safe delivery and installation of the new furniture complying with all relevant Health & Safety and Environmental standards and policies;
To manage all people moves from establishing their initial requirements to implementation;
Monitor subcontractor work teams to ensure suitably qualified and experienced operatives are directed to relevant tasks and ensure that all operatives have appropriate vehicles, equipment and skills to perform relevant tasks;
To undertake other projects as required in the same professional manner.
To develop strong working relationships with all the project stakeholders including: MOD staff, Modus, Skanska, Amey staff and our subcontractors;
Support Amey management, the Authority, Skanska and Modus in in providing optimal solutions to customer requirements to resolve end user issues including the development of new work requirements and the compilation of formal new project submissions;
To liaise closely with MOD staff about their forthcoming people moves as part of the project;
Assist in the resolution of complaints or other project issues in a timely and satisfactory manner;
Liaise with the Amey MOD Operations teams to ensure site knowledge, work procedures and on-going maintenance requirements are fully incorporated in the planning and delivery of Project Works (this is known locally as the Consequential Impacts of projects).Commercial Responsibilities
Comply with the agreed system of developing project AVE cost sheets and them monitoring financial progress during the work period and reporting any variances;
Manage cost and stakeholder expectation through excellent communication and sound commercial decisions to ensure value for money;
Work with all stakeholders to support the management and mitigation of project risks;
Ensure Project Works are delivered efficiently and economically in order to promote a profitable business for Amey.
What are we looking for?
A project management qualification such as PRINCE 2
Competent in use of project planning tools such as MS Project and/or CAD;
Management level qualification in H&S and Environment (e.g. IOSH);
Continuing Professional Development;
Developed IT skills (e.g. Excel, Word etc.).
Demonstrable experience of supervising staff in Project Management including:
Leading an operational team to achieve project objective
Management of costs
Planning, directing and controlling activities
Creation of project documents (e.g. Project Brief, Budget and Works Programme);
Commercial management such as obtaining quotes, raising orders, budget reconciliation;
Development of H&S documents ans safe systems of work such as RAMS and Construction Phase Plans and to implement H&S controls on site;
Experience of supervising site operations, including:
Planning, directing and controlling activities;
Agreeing scope and priorities of work;
Proactive performance management;
Ability to solve problems and make decisions;
Undertaking people moves.Desirable:
Associate Member of a relevant professional body (e.g. APM, BIFM).
Accredited training qualification in Asbestos Responsible Person, Authorised Person Training.
Significant experience in Construction, Property Maintenance or related project management field including:
Experience of operating in an MOD environment;
Good working knowledge of CDM regulations;
Experience of the Asbestos at Work Act, DDA, energy performance, Sustainability etc.

Due to the sensitive and classified nature of this project you will need to attain an MOD SC Clearance. Clearances are undertaken by the MOD and non-UK nationals will find it considerably more difficult to qualify. If you do not get clearance you will not be allowed to work on this or other projects
