Northern College, the only adult residential college in Yorkshire, is in a unique position to be able to offer the essential skills adults need and employers want. Our campus is open 24/7 so we can offer flexible and accessible modes of delivery – evenings, weekends, blended and residential – to meet the needs of the local, regional and national economy.
Our mission is to inspire positive change through adult education, and working closely with our community, voluntary and employer partners we will provide outstanding teaching and learning on our campus based in the grade 1 listed Wentworth Castle and surrounded by 500 acres of National Trust gardens and parkland.

Payroll & Finance Lead
Salary: £27,485 – £29,303 per annum
Full time: 36 Hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Location: Wentworth Castle, Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Lead the preparation, calculation and processing of the college's monthly payroll.
Undertake pension and auto-enrolment responsibilities in line with regulatory dates.
To reconcile the College's monthly payroll and month end payments to external agencies such as HMRC and pension schemes within required timeframes
Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and support monthly budget monitoring and analysis reporting.
Utilise relevant reporting tools to ensure the accuracy of data and to develop the payroll system to identify efficiencies and find solutions.
To be successful in this role, you will have or be able to:
Demonstrable working knowledge of payroll including knowledge of PAYE, NICs and statutory payments.
Knowledge and an understanding of accounting principles.
Experience of working in Credit Control
Be part-qualified CCAB (AAT minimum) or have an equivalent payroll qualification.
